DAY 3: Team ViaSat, RAAM 2009

Jeremy Gustin and Ken Larson laid the groundwork in turning some great times up to Time Station 17. ViaSat was averaging shy of 23 mph when the exciting duo of Andrew Danly and Tobias Panek took over. Danly and Panek were working well together, turning some great times into Taos. Danly and Panek crossed the Rio Grande River without a problem. Issues began when Panek transferred with Danly but lost the rider transport vehicle. Danly then rode nearly 42 miles without a rider change. “You have to expect the unexpected,” Danly said. Riding the extra mileage wasn’t an issue, though Danly wanted to have Panek there to make a change.

Next up for Team ViaSat was the tandem of Larry Bice and newcomer, Ryan Denner. Both bring a unique style to the team and have held their own in this years’ race. Denner is used to competition, he’s a triathlete, marathoner and an avid hiker. Bice is back to the team after spending the 2008 campaign “behind the desk.” Bice has been instrumental in the success of the ViaSat team since their inception 4 seasons ago.

The Media crew has a flat tire in Springer, New Mexico.
